Daily Figure Review #3: Mandroid Build-A Figure (2014 Winter Soldier Marvel Legends Wave)
Another pull from the shelf: the 2014 S.H.I.E.L.D. Mandroid Build-A-Figure.
The pros of this figure: The plastic used, especially on the torso, gives it a nice metallic feel. The S.H.I.E.L.D. logo really pops even though it’s black-on-gray. And the figure is nice and beefy, giving it good mass. Though it’s not really all that much taller than the standard Legends figure, it feels properly sized.
But the downside is this build-a-figure is basically build-a-statue. The legs have good knee joints, but maintaining balance is hard when putting them into a dynamic pose. The arms have virtually no articulation; the arm weapons hinder the elbow joints, so there are only a few degrees of movement possible.
This figure is coming up on 10-years-old and the limitations of the time show. Still, I’m surprised Hasbro hasn’t put it out as a deluxe release. People love to army build, after all! I’ve picked up five Mandroids and may add more to my shelf as time passes.
